Cathal Brugha Mini Water Polo League Finals and Clubmark presentation

Cathal Brugha Mino Polo League Success and Clubmark accreditation

Cathal Brugha Swimming & Water Polo Club, in conjunction with Belfast City Council, has organised a hugely successful gateway project which introduces young people of primary school age to the sport of water polo.  A  mini water polo league has been running for four weeks in Andersonstown Leisure Centre and has attracted children from all over the city on Tuesday nights.

The final league session on Tuesday 13th December was attended by the Lord Mayor of Belfast Councillor Niall O Donnghaile who presented medals and participation certificates to the league winners and all of the young people who took part.

The Lord Mayor said “Belfast City Council is delighted to be associated with this ambitious initiative, which has clearly been a great success.  Congratulations to the progressive Cathal Brugha club for staging such an excellent event here at Andersonstown Leisure Centre and also in their achievement of being awarded the prestigious Clubmark sports management award.”

6 young teams, the Sharks, Pirates, Dolphins, Jets, Squids and Piranhas thoroughly enjoyed the mini water polo experience and Phil Kelly, Chairman of Cathal Brugha, on the night said, “This pilot project has exceeded all expectations and we hope to extend this initiative to other swimming pools in the New Year.”

Cathal Brugha is the first water polo club in Ireland to receive the Clubmark accreditation and Sarah Keane (CEO of Swim Ireland) came up from Dublin to present this award of excellence to the club.
