Camlough Lake Festival 26th – 28th August

Please note that the Second Camlough Lake Festival will take place on 26th to 28th August 2011.

The full itinerary for the Festival can be viewed at http://www.clwf.eu/ or the Camloughlake Facebook page.

The Festival is based at an idyllic lake setting just outside the village of Camlough, just 3 miles from Newry. The main activity of the Festival is Waterpolo, although there are also a number of long distance swimming events, canoeing and other water based activities. We will also have open water night swims round our 750 metre course. (see more details below)

We intend to play games from about 6pm on Friday to 9 or 10, the later games being flood lit. There will be games throughout Saturday and Sunday. There has been a lot of interest expressed this year, including from a team from Scotland and a team from England. The format of the festival will depend on the number of teams and their standard. We anticipate having a women’s competition,  a men’s elite league for the Division 1 teams and visitors from overseas, and a second men’s league for weaker teams, masters teams or teams made from a mix of master and juniors. There will be prize money for all leagues- the amount to be confirmed. The cost will be £80 per team- including free access to the campsite and hopefully (subject to funds and sponsors) free access to a Saturday night barbecue. We will also be having entertainment on at least Saturday night- this will include a band and almost certainly a marquee by the lake.

I’m sure that all that attended last year’s event will agree that the setup of the pitch etc was fantastic!!  It was unfortunate that the weather let us down. We have moved the Festival forward a month to try and ensure the optimum conditions. We are aware that the camping facilities last year were not ideal and we are confident that we will have a better, more suitable location this year. As was the case last year there were will be changing rooms and hot showers at lakeside.

Finally, if there wasn’t already enough to make this a “must attend” event in the Waterpolo Calendar, rumour has it that a some of the Hungarian Waterpolo team are in Ireland that weekend on a stag and are threatening coming up- but don’t hold me to that!!

We are keen to secure definite numbers as soon as possible and would ask that anyone interested confirm by the 31 July 2011 by e mailing camloughlakewaterfestival@hotmail.com There were 9 men’s and 4 women’s teams last year- lets improve on that
