Referees Course Sept 10th/11th Dublin

Please contact Steve O’Brien or myself (cara.mulcahy@hotmail.com) if you are interested in this course.  Sat 10th will be classroom based in the Regency Hotel and then on Sun morning there will be a written exam followed by a practical session out in the NAC.  Cost €75 (which includes coffees, materials, and lunches on both days).

Clonard’s Pre Season Preparation

Clonard began their preparation for the new season when they travelled to Amsterdam to compete in a truly international tournament.
They opened up going down 5-4 to Brazilian side Kalangos.Defeats against Italians Locatelle Godere 5-3 and hosts Het Y 8-2 were followed by a morale boosting 11-4 win over another Italian side Firenze Pallantuoto.Paul Armstrong led the charge with four goals.
French side Exatec beat them 10-5 before finishing on a high with wins over Gorica(Slovakia) 8-6 and Black Base(Italy) 5-0.
Declan Burke,Graeme Flanagan,Gavin Dempsey,John McCloskey,Declan Shannon and Daniel Gallagher all acquitted themselves well.

Camlough Lake Festival – results

Brugha did the double when they won both the womens and mens events at the Camlough Lake tournament on saturday.
The men beat Sandycove 4-3(AET) in the final with the women accounting for Donegall Diamonds 5-3.
For the second year in row “A good time was had by all”.Great craic. (Thanks Gerry for report)

IWPA Referee Course 10th/11th Sept Dublin

The IWPA will be running a referee course on weekend of 10th/11th Sept in Dublin. Sat will be classroom-based in Regency Hotel, and Sun morn there will be written exam followed by practical session in the NAC in the afternoon. Itinerary will be issued later in the week once numbers are known. Cost is €75 which includes all materials, coffees, and lunches on both days. Course will be given by Mike Jukes from the UK. Tri-Nations Update

Ireland’s Mens Team came within a goal of winning the three nation tournament against Scotland and Wales in front of a big crowd at the University Arena in Limerick at the weekend.
They followed a 14-13 win over Wales with a 10-10 draw against Scotland with Scotland scoring the equaliser with just 6 seconds left on the clock.
Stio McMahon, Gavin Curley (3 each), Jonathan Kirk, Sean Kenna, Eoin Nolan (2each) Conor Campfield and Eoin Bridgeman (1each) scored against Wales, with Irelands outstanding player, Stio McMahon hitting four against Scotland. The other scores came from Gavin Curley and Conor Campfield (2 Each), Alan Fogarty and Sean Kenna (1 each).
Scotland beat Wales 10-8 in the other game.
The Ireland womens team with the classic mix of youth and experience were beaten but by no means disgraced when they lost 9-6 to Scotland and 11-8 to Sweden. Deirdre Cassidy and Sarah Keane were joint top scorers for Ireland with 5 goals each.

Irish coaches Peter Cassidy(women) and Victor Kirk (men) have both named strong sides for the Tri-Nation internationals which are being played at the Olympic sized pool at the University Arena  in Limerick this week-end.Despite being out of season most of the top players have made themselves available for the games against Scotland and Wales(men) and Scotland and Sweden(women).There are also under 16 internationals but the Irish teams will not be named until later this week.

Academy 2011

The Academy is taking place this week in UL – 18/21st August incl.  We have 120+ junior players and 20+ coaches with Jerome Read, ex-GB mens coach, providing excellent tuition to our juniors and also our coaches.
