Junior Boy’s Triumph at Tri Nations.

The Ireland Squads competed in the annual Tri-Nations tournament in Glasgow over the weekend.

The Junior Boys got off to a rocky start against Wales and were neck and neck right to the last few minutes, although Ireland doggedly fought to earn a 8 – 6 win. The first game gave the squad a boost of confidence and they took a commanding lead in the game against Scotland where they ran away with the game 24 – 4. This impressive performance helped to cement goalkeeper Luke Callaghan as the top goalkeeper of the tournament. Well done to coach Denver Kirk, assistant Joe Smyth and team manager Martin ‘Mammy’ Keleghan

The Men’s Senior Squad came up against two tough teams in Scotland and Wales and were just edged out in both matches in the final few minutes, 8 – 6 to Scotland and 10 – 9 to Wales, but new players got the opportunity to earn their first international caps and coach Michael Banks got the chance to see new talent for the future, with the help of team manager, Ian Mc Comish.

The Junior Girl’s Squad came up short in the last quarter against a strong Wales squad ending up 6 – 8 to Wales. In their next game they took the lead against Scotland although, the intensity of two games in a short period caught up with them in the last quarter and Scotland pulled back to earn a 10 – 10 draw, in what the most entertaining and exciting game of the tournament. Well done to coach Tadhg Murphy, assistant Aedeen Conway and team manager, Debbie (from tribes).

As always, a very big thanks has to go to all the coaching staff and team managers that tirelessly put their time and effort into facilitating such great events.
